A visit to the land of technology: the latest trends in Singapore

By | August 24, 2015

After a 24h Cluj-Frankfurt-Singapore journey, we arrived in the Southest city of continental Asia, also known as ‘The City of the Lions’. And as soon as you step in Singapore, your expectations are confirmed: gadgets and technology are a daily must here, and we’re talking about 5 million inhabitants.

Here I had the most intense sense of security. Regardless of the time of day, the rules of the huge megalopolis impressed me, as well as the fascinating mixture of sky-scrapers, palm trees, the ocean and a very well developed infrastructure, of course – all of these in a single place. The city covers a surface a surface of 704 km2, making it the second densely populated city in the world, after Hong Kong.

So you can imagine the cultural mix found here, like a cocktail that you’re never getting tired of.

CommunicAsia 2015 – tech trends in Singapore

After a short while, I reached Marina Bay Sands, the ground zero area of the city, which hosted the 26th International Communications and Information Technology Exhibition & Conference. Spread across three levels, the three areas designated for the exhibitioners from CommunicAsia 2015 covered the latest tech trends in software and hardware: from Internet of things (IoT), Satellite and Satellite Mobility, the Mobile area, to the Automative area, Big data, Cloud, Digital Transformation of telcos and enterprises, Fixed and Mobile Broadband, Mobile Marketing, Network Virtualisation, Software Defined Networks, plus simultaneous workshops on various themes and the areas for networking.

Of course, you need almost one day to make an entire tour of the event, but you’ll take a peek at all the technology you can dream and desire. And it’s there, just in front of you. Lucky us!

CommunicAsia 2015 is different from Embedded World, Exhibition & Conference from Nuremberg, an event attended by AROBS each year. At the German event, the focus usually is on software and hardware dedicated exclusively to the automotive industry, having the leaders from the field as exhibitioners such as: Bosch, Green Hills, National Instruments, Continental, Elektrobit, Intel etc.

Romania’s stall at CommunicAsia 2015 included 12 participants with mobile solutions, cloud and software development.

AROBS focused mainly on automotive solutions that we are developing for the German leaders in the field, solutions that we will see in the following years, including Travel and Home Automation.

One of the main events that I had the opportunity to attend there was the launch of Huawei P8, the latest smartphone from the Chinese producer. With an attractive design, thanks to the metal back cover and a 5,2 inch touch-screen the new terminal became an attraction for the public. And not just thanks to the design. The 13 MP camera takes excellent photos, so everyone was delighted. Along with the new P8, Huawei introduced its cheaper, but none the less well built, brother: the P8 Lite.

Another must see part of the CommunicAsia 2015 was The Satellite Area, with the latest trends in Home Automation, Internet of Things, and the Automotive Area.

A view from Sentosa Island

After all this tech we needed some time to explore the beauty of Singapore, and a trip to Sentosa Island is something you must experience once you’re there. Also known as the adrenaline junkies, Sentosa Island is reachable by a cable car or express subway. We chose the first option and we had a chance to admire the awesome view.

Although there are about 70 malls in Singapore, it’s always a better idea to discover the faces of Singapore instead of wasting your time shopping. :)
